• Strong emphasis on multi-agency approach and helping young people access other services

  • A variety of approaches in working with young people, such as detached, which allows for more young people to be contacted and thus gain more opportunities.

  • Some young people become socially excluded due to being forgotten by a variety of services therefore the tracing system introduced by Connexions will prevent this.

  • Offering youth work's distinctive skills to other agencies to enhance their work and make it more accessible.

  • Connexions aims to break the cycle of disadvantage by using a coherent strategy that supports the young person as a whole rather than focussing on one aspect of their need at any one time.

Negative aspects:

  • 19 years old is too early to leave the program as young people will be too young to have achieved full citizenship.
  • Confusion over what training is required to become a personal advisor means that some young people will not be receiving the full support possible.
  • There is a question mark over whether the tracking system is viable.
  • Young people have not been included in the planning and implementation of the project so is it really a project that is truly for young people.
  • Helping young people gain qualifications in deprived areas may not be relevant.
  • Connexions does not incorporate a voluntary relationship with the young people
